Head Coach Mark “Pudge” Gjormand finished his 24th season at the helm of the James Madison High School baseball program in May 2018, and his 32nd season coaching high school baseball. Under Gjormand, the Warhawks have won 14 Liberty Conference and 1 Concorde Conference Championships in the past 17 years. In 2018 Gjormand was named Conference Coach of the year for the 7th time and Region 6 Coach of the year for the 4th time. Gjormand's many other honors include Home Plate Club’s high school coach of the year, the National Baseball Coaches Association (BCA) East Coast coach of the year, and a finalist for the BCA’s national coach of the year award.
Prior to becoming Madison’s head coach, Gjormand served as an assistant at Langley in 1987 and as the top varsity assistant under longtime George C. Marshall High School head coach Dean Sissler from 1988-95. Gjormand has grown up in the coaching profession, learning from the likes of Mike Skinner, Neil Callahan, Pete Bendorf, Chuck Welsh and Scott Rowland. During the offseason, Gjormand concentrates his efforts on Directing the MVP Baseball School located in Reston, Va. as well as MVP International Athletics; Sending athletes from across America overseas to compete and see the world through athletics.
Gjormand became a proud member of the BCA in 2002; He became the mid-atlantic district representative in 2004; In 2008 he was nominated to the executive committee, serving his one year term as President in 2010-2011. He is currently serving on the National Ranking Committee and 2017 was his 5th time speaking at the National Conference.
Gjormand resides in Herndon with his wife, Beth, a 1987 Madison graduate. The Gjormands have three children, Samantha (18), Josh (16) and Trevor (12). Beth and the three children are staples at each of the Warhawks’ games. “I am married to the best Mom in the world,” Gjormand said. “I thank the Lord every day. I am truly blessed.” The Gjormands enjoy traveling as well as spending their weekends and summer vacations away at their beach home at Ocean City, Maryland.

Pete is a former Major League Baseball left-handed pitcher who played for the New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros, Boston Red Sox, and Pittsburgh Pirates from 1991 to 2001. He was the runnerup for the National League's Cy Young Award in 1995.
Pete is a Northern Virginia native who grew up in Falls Church and attended George C. Marshall High School where he helped the Statesmen finish as runners up in the Virginia High School League State Championship.
Schourek lives in the Northern Virginia area with his wife and daughter. His father, Joe, is a respected teacher and successful baseball coach at Gonzaga College High School.
